Young Buck

Date: 9 Feb 2013
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Kellie, Mischke
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners 5g Celtas
Berley: None
Catch: 0
Report: More of a camping trip than a fishing trip, managed to throw the lure around for a couple of hours though. Lots of fish but no hookups. A couple of stretches I fished, little browns were trailing and tapping the lure, cast after cast. I tried all techniques, but they didn't want to hit it. The spots I fished were pretty close to the camp ground, and I suspect these guys have seen a lot of traffic. Mischke handled the trip like a little trooper.

Santas Pond

 Date: 3 Feb 2014
Weather: Hot and sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Redfin, Golden perch
Bait: Lures
Berley: None
Catch: 2 Redfin
Report: Headed over late in the arvo to throw some lures around. Water level is quite low, and very snaggy. Went for a couple of lure retrieval swims, which didn't bother me at all given the heat. Managed 2 fish, one gave me a little run. This place doesn't work in the cooler months, save it for summer only.

Blacksands Creek

Date: 27 Jan 2014
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Spiny Back Crays
Bait: Rump Steak
Berley: None
Catch:1 Eel, 1 Spiny Cray
Report: Fun afternoon. Only managed the one cray, and netted an eel out of boredom. Boiled the cray for about 4 minutes  - tasty little bugger! Note for next time, bring some colored ribbon to tie to lines - I had a bastard of a time trying to find them. Also, bring split shot sinkers.

Bitwenjopit Fly Session

Date: 26 Jan 2014
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Parko
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Hoppers
Berley: None
Catch:2 Rainbows (one the size of my index finger - smallest I've ever seen), 1 Brown
Report: Thanks to Parko for the fly lesson. Such an incredible experience which I suspect will mark the start of the next chapter in my fishing career. The excitement of watching that little fly hopper float downstream and seeing a fish rise up and grab it is unreal. Action was pretty consistent.

Whoray Creek

Date: 19 Jan 2014
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners 5g Celtas
Berley: None
Catch:Nil
Report: This stretch of water isn't known as being a good trout stream. Its closer to home than the Bitwenjopit, and I've always been keen to give it some attention. I only managed to put in an hour or so with no luck. I did see some fish, and am keen to get back and give it another crack. It is over-grown in parts, which makes for some challenging and fun casting.

Cowabunga Creek

Date: 2 Jan 2014
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners 5g Celtas
Berley: None
Catch: 1 x Brown Trout
Report: Epic drive to get to this river. Had a lot of trouble finding access. All of the roads shown on the map are goat trails or private driveways. Access was via a very steep descent. Action was a little slow, I think this is a place where you need to put in a lot of time. Managed one little brown (released) on the walk back - it is always worth throwing a few casts on the walk back down the river. Had a little fish of the Hotbox River on the way home - no fish, but lots of potential.

Tangip River

Date: 30 Dec 2013
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners 5g Celtas
Berley: None
Catch: 4 x Brown Trout (tiny - see pic)
Report: Third try at this river - such beautiful scenery. River access is about 30 mins on a gravel road - I spotted a few other access points downstream of the fork. Tried a new spot - East river, starting just downstream from the first river crossing. Action was pretty consistent, lost another couple - one felt like a big fish. Slipped on a rock and bruised my knee. All fish released.

Bitwenjopit

Date: 27 Dec 2013
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Toon
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners 5g Celtas, Rapala CD5 Brown Trout
Berley: None
Catch: 4 x Rainbow Trout (average stream size)
Report: Started at the normal spot, Dave wandered downstream and Toon started at the bridge. Toon landed a solid rainbow just past the bridge. Tried a new spot further upstream, had to climb some fences. Dave managed two rainbows, Toon couldn't find a clear stretch of river - too much debris. Had another little go at a spot further upstream again where Toon managed a little guy. All fish released.

Currawong Camp

Date: 15-17 Nov-2013
Weather: Mild
Crew: Toon, Ross, Willo
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners
Berley: None
Catch: 1 x Small Brown Trout
Report: Beautiful countryside and fished two days in total for one small trout and a missed opp. Walked upstream for a good couple of hours with little luck. Campsite was awesome, and there is heaps of 4wd up this way to take advantage of. River was crystal clear and temp was nice even though it was semi-cold in this part of the alpine forest.

Mary and Steve's

Date: 18-Nov-2013
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners
Berley: None
Catch: 1 x Brown Trout
Report: Pretty slow session. Had a few more hits, but didn't get a hookup. Saw a couple of crays in the water. One grabbed my lure and I managed to pull the bugger out of the water. Will have to go up and target crays one of these days. Too many of my blog pics look the same. I'll start to mix it up.

Tanjgip River

Date: 7 Apr 2013
Weather: Mild
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: Lures - Spinners 5g Brown Trout, Rapala CD5 - Brown Trout
Berley: None
Catch: None
Report: Long drive from Melbourne - close to 2 hours. Didn't put much time in, so no result. Beautiful river, will definately head back. Wading was a little tough due to irregular shaped rock river bed. Next time, keep driving past the first bridge to the next junction. Had a look on google earth and river access seems better there.
