Brighton Yacht Club

Date: 28 Nov 2015
Weather: Overcast, cold
Crew: Toon, Reinhard
Target Fish: Flathead
Bait: - Soft Plastics
Catch: None
Report: Left home at 5am, arrived at brighton yacht club at 5:40am to catch sunrise. Cast into the channell for an hour and a half. No hits, but good spot. Should produce flathead, but this time no luck. Next time, look to hit this at an hour either side of the tide changes.

Bitwenjopit

Date: 12 Nov 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Ross
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #12 ( with Copper John Nymph), Celtas, Rapala CD5
Catch: 2 browns, 2 rainbows
Report: Early Sunday morning session, starting off at the section just downstream of the first campsite. Managed one hook-up on the nymph, losing the little guy during the aerial performance.
Went back to the trusty old farm spot, which produced a couple of healthy looking fish. I suspect Ross' next big purchase will be a fly outfit.

Tangip

Date:
15 Nov 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #12 ( with Copper John Nymph)
Catch: 3 browns, 3 rainbows
Report: Had another crack at the spot where I got the car stuck, decided to walk in this time. Stumbled across a nice little feeder stream that was absolutely teaming with fish (see if you can spot one of the buggers in the second pic - he was actually chasing a little brown around that pool). The main river was a lovely stretch of water, with plenty of healthy fish. Looking forward (as always) to hitting again!

Tassie Streams

Date: 6-9 Nov 2015
Weather:
Sunny
Crew: Dave, Easty
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #12 ( with Copper John Nymph), Parachute Adams #12
Catch: 9 browns
Report: Trip was looking very promising early on, managing 3 very nice looking fish within 20 mins of pulling the car up at the campsite next to the river. Streams hit include the St Patricks River, Cambden Rivulet, Patersonia Rivulet, North Esk River and Nile River. All streams produced fish except the Patersonia, which I attribute to heavy handed fishing. Looking forward to getting down there again for some more exploring.

Tangip

Date: 4 Nov 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #12 ( with Copper John Nymph), Parachute Adams #12
Catch: 1 brown
Report: I have come to the conclusion this is my favorite river in Victoria. It rarely produces big bags of fish, but I always leave pondering when I can next get back. This time I was intending to try a new stretch, further upstream on the west side. This led me to finally find the Camry's off-roading limit, getting stuck on a ridge. After some creative use of my jack, I headed back to a familiar stretch. Only managed one brown before the heavens opened. Can't wait to get back there!

Ronnies Creek

Date: 24 Oct 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Easty
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #12 ( with Copper John Nymph), Parachute Adams #12
Catch: 2 rainbows, 1 brown
Report: Session was looking good early one, with a nice brown taking the nymph in the first 10 minutes. Pretty slow going for the next couple of hours. Easty succeeded with the 'catch a cray by hand' challenge, not before the little bugger let him know he was a force to be reckoned with. Easty also managed to pull 2 solid rainbows from a nice run.

Tag Dog

Date: 3 Oct 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #12 ( with Copper John Nymph), Parachute Adams #12
Catch: 10+ rainbows and brown
Report: This is the site of the 2015 winter cookout. Absolutely cracking afternoon, action was on right from the start. Most fish took took the nymph. Nice rise going on next to the carpark on the walk back, managed to fool a lovely size brown with a Parachute Adams.

Naughty Mick

 Date: 27 Sep 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Ross, Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #14 ( with Copper John Nymph), Parachute Adams #14, Celtas, Rapala
Catch: 1 rainbow
Report: Quite an adventure! Access to this river took two hours on foot, and involved passing through someones property, a river crossing and some gnarly bush bashing. Looked like a very promising stream, however the fishing was a little disappointing. Rainbow smashed the celta, was released (albeit with only half its scull). Unlikely to hit again.

University Other Tributary

Date: 20 Sep 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #14 (initially with Copper John Nymph), Parachute Adams #14
Catch: 2 little browns, 1 rainbow
Report: Another new river. Very nice little stream, with easy access. Debris in water is just about on the limit of what I will tolerate. First fish took the Stimulator that had nymph suspended, so decided to drop the nymph. Other two fish took Para. Saw a platypus! Will hit again

University Tributary

Date: 5 Sep 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Royal Stimulator #14
Catch: 1 little brown (1 take, and 1 hookup)
Report: Season opener! Tried a new river in a region where I've not had much success. Was looking really good early on, but the river became more overgrown with every step upstream. A couple of good lessons:
- If your not sure what you have sighted is a fish or a leaf, assume its a fish!
- Always have a strike strategy
This spot has been on my list for a while, but probably wouldn't hit again. Looks like there might be a few 4WD trails...

Cumerbund

Date: 4 March 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #14
Catch: 2 Browns, 1 Galaxias
Report: Great to be fishing 'on the clock'. Amazing the difference a mid-week session makes at this place, no foot traffic from holiday punters. Managed an absolute cracking brown from a pool usually full of swimmers. First non-trout fish caught on fly too!

Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #14

Report: Drove a little further than the usual haunts in hope of some clear water. Was a little disappointed to find it quite murky. Fishing was still pretty good.

Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #14

Ronnie's Creek

Date: 15 February 2015
Weather: Sunny - hot as hell.
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #14
Catch: 1 Rainbow
Report:
I missed a fish on the first cast  - couldn't believe it! Was generally hard going, and I wasn't really feeling it. The river was a tad ugly, the best section didn't reveal itself the end of the session. Will hit again. Blackberries were a highlight.

Bitwenjopit

Date: 7 February 2015
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Liz, Bec, Kellie, Misch Bud
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #14
Catch: 5 Rainbows
Report: Liz's first time fly fishing, and she absolutely killed it! Managed to land three fish from three takes, including a couple of risers. All were solid size and healthy looking fish.

Tangip

Date: January 2015 sessions
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave, Easty
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #14, Copper John Nymph #14, Brown Trout Celtas
Catch: 10+, 4 Browns
Report: Dedication to fishing this river finally paid off. Session 1 took a bit of experimenting with flies, finally landing on the Parachute Adams. Pulled a fish out of every 'definitely a fish there' spot. Session 2 was joined by Easty. Action was a little slower, but still worth the drive. First fish of the day took the nymph on trailing line - weird. Easty managed a nice little guy, and missed another couple. Last fish of the day smashed a the Stimulator.

Royal Bird

Date: December sessions
Weather: Sunny
Crew: Dave
Target Fish: Trout
Bait: - Fly - Parachute Adams #12, Royal Stimulator #12, Elk Hair Caddis #14
Berley: None
Catch: 2, 1, 2 Browns
Report: Door to river from my place is just under one hour. The section I fished is apparently 'not worth fishing'. There are plenty of fish here, but they are very tricky to fool. The river bed is very snaggy - I hooked a fish on the dry and snagged the nymph, giving the little guy enough time to unhook himself. Smaller flies tend to work better here.
